Instant messaging on the computer has become the phone for kids today. Children spend hours chatting online with their friends, and sometimes with strangers. A recent study found that one in five children online is approached by a sexual predator, a predator who may try to set up a face-to-face meeting.


Predators have turned to the Internet to find their victims. Lurking in chat rooms, and engaging in on-line conversations, Internet predators have the ability to disguise their identities. A 35-year-old man may be posing as a 12-year-old girl, or a single mother in a chat room may actually be a married male.
